Which DSLR lens is right for me?
I am definitely an amateur, but I love to take full length portrait pictures, however the perspective is always out of kilter. I am planning to buy a Canon Rebel XTI that comes with an EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 lens. Will this lens solve my "big head, little feet" problem? What lens would be the best?

This is partly a lens issue and partly a shooting technique issue. First, to minimize perspective problems on full length portraits, take the picture at mid-abdomen level, not eye level. Second, use a slight telephoto setting. On a camera like the XTi (1.6x multiplier), zoom to about 50mm (and back up to get the full length in your viewfinder).
If you're serious about taking good portrait shots, you may find the 18-55 "kit" lens somewhat disappointing. It's OK for general purpose shooting, but not super sharp. Consider buying a 50mm fixed focal length lens for your portrait shots to go with it. For a "relatively" low cost alternative general shooting lens, the 17-85 IS lens is worth the extra money in my opinion. Well that lens will work. Set on about 32mm this should give you "normal" perspective (normal is about 50mm, given the Canon 1.6 crop factor this comes to roughly 32mm).
If the problem still exists, try lowering the camera do that you are looking more squarely on to your subject.
