Which D-SRL should I buy???

I want to buy a SRL camera, I would like to know which is the best option. For what I have read, Canon EOS 400D and NIKKON 70 are one of my best options. What do you recommend? My budget is $ 1,000

Also which lenses should I buy?.... I am a beginer

and the last question is, where to buy it? in the USA or in EUROPE??

I agree with Dr. Sam that you should leave plenty of budget for a good lens. With $1000 you CAN buy a Canon 400D or a Nikon D80, but not toghether with a lens that would do it justice.

It seems that Sam hasn't looked at recent prices however. The D70s and the lens he recommends can be bought as a kit for just $809.

This is a very reliable store, and this is an awesome package for the price! Add a 1GB memory card - the SanDisk Ultra ll or a SanDisk Extreme lll for a bit more speed - and you're still well under $900.

Where to buy? Prices in the USA are MUCH lower than in Europe. I live in Europe myself but I have friends/ family buy camera gear for me in the USA. The only thing is, if you live in Europe and can't have somebody test the equipment in the USA, it can be very tricky to return items or to use your warranty. For $1000, you should look one line under and save the money for a better lens. The Canon EOS 350D and Nikon D50 or the Nikon D40 (available Dec this year) should be what you're looking for. I don't know much about Nikon lenses since I m a Canon guy. If you are going for Canon, the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens will be a good walk around lens for your budget. You don't have quite enough in your budget to geta D70 and a decent lens. Get a Nikon D50. It has a few "consumer friendly" automatic modes that make it very easy to use, but still offers total photographic control when you are ready to take charge. Get a "decent" lens, such as their Nikkor AF-S 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G ED DX lens and not the "kit" lens. This pair will cost you less than $1,000 and you will be very happy with it. If you want more lenses for the same money, you can get this camera with two "kit" lenses that are decent, but not as good for the long haul as the one I mentioned. When you are ready to add lenses, the sky is the limit with Nikon. Get a 1 GB memory card, such as the Sandisk "Ultra" for decent write speed. An "Extreme" is faster, but I doubt anyone would notice the difference except a pro.

Someone else will undoubtedly recommend a similar Canon camera and I will not dispute that choice. I know Nikons and someone else knows Canons.
