I am thinking of getting a digital camera with 6 mega pixels.

What will the photo quality be like with that many pixels?

Excellent! You know what.. my uncle had a 3.0 MP camera and the results on a photo-quality 4x6 paper were brilliant.. So your camera can deliver excellent photo quality.

All it depends now is what brand you have. There are many cheap brand cameras available these days. They may look like the best buy around but the truth is they are not. The camera results that a Canon, Sharp, Sony, Nikon, Olympus, Kyocera, Panasonic or JVC can deliver are out of this world when you compare them with the cheaper low-quality brands. Consider the fact that the camera i mentioned earlier delivered far better results than a 6.0 MP (extrapolated to 8.0MP) camera from some Chinese brand. excellent it is one of the best to have now I've been told that the amount of mega pixels only make a difference if you are printing the photos on say A4 paper. on normal size photos ( 6x8 ) the quality will be good regardless of wether you use 4mp or 6 mp very good !!!! the one i would suggest at the moment is an "olympus " on sale at currys ￡99 really nice...but really expensive. Mine is a 3.0 megapixels and works fine..but for a photography hobby I would get the 6.0. 6 mega pixels is like today standard for normal camera, the photo isn't at all that bad if you get it right it should be clear enough but if you don't focus it good it will be distorted. Very good indeed. With todays′uptodate quality the pixels are irrelevant ! very good yes it will give out sharp, quality pictures.Higher megapixels means larger image sizes,So a camera with 6 Megapixels can take a more detailed picture than a camera with smaller Megapixels. You can print both at any size you want, but you may see better quality with the 6 MP (MP=MegaPixel) camera than with the smaller MP camera. very good ,i have one like this very good ,it's from China,AND WORK'S COOL!!! your photo quality should be pretty good. Sounds good Very good!! Previous answers regarding pixels are correct; pixels allow the print to be made bigger, or if you crop a small area of a picture, will keep that part in good quality. Go for a main stream brand (Canon, Nikon, fuji etc) and you can't really go wrong. There are very few bad cameras on sale! i have an 8 meg olympus e500.. the photo quality is excellent, its got me a few front pages...and won a couple of competitions.

at 100% on my 22 inch monitor the image is roughly 3x teh width and about 2.5x teh height thats at a 1280x960 resolution on my monitor. so anything you print will be like printing off a 10x8 neg as a contact print.

and to improve the tonal saturations and contrast adjustments is a doddle in any paint package
