Bad camera?

On Monday My husband bought me a Canon Powershot 850IS for an early birthday present. Well we got it home and messing with it. It was taking great pictures and everything. Played with it a little more and then went to turn it off and the lens got stuck and would not retract. On the lcd screen is said "Lens Error...Restart Camera" I tried that a dozen times without any success. So I decided to go ahead and arrange a repair to send it back to Canon. Now what I am wondering...I have this feeling that they will tell me that it is my fault or something to that effect. I handled it with the utmost care. I am very good with my stuff. Does anybody think I will have a problem? I know this is a wierd question..but I am just afraid that they will give me bad news. Thank you. Oh yeah...I read plenty of reviews on it before I got it and nobody else mentioned this happening to them. i think I got a defective camera. Thank you again for any input.

first of all, you should try getting the batteries out, recharging them and then restart your camera. Many compact cameras have certain problems when the batteries run out very fast - the camera shuts down, but there isn't enough energy to get the lens completely shut, and when you turn it on again the camera doesn't recognize the state of the lens. If this still doesn't work, you should have nothing to worry about. If there is a real flaw in the camera, it is easy to identify its source - fabrication or bad use. I had a similar experience with a olympus camera, without the message... but it disappeared in a few hours. My advice would be to try the restarting a bit longer. some cameras work in mysterious ways. Change batteries? Use rechargeables or lithium. the 850 is an excellent camera
