Since an SLR can be film or digital, I'll give you some very inexpensive options for film SLRs.
If you want a new camera, probably the best thing you can get is a Canon Rebel K2 at a cost of $200. Although a bit inexpensively made, it's still a great camera that will serve you quite well.
There are plenty of older used SLRs of varying vintages which can be had for less than $100, or less than $50 in some cases. when you decide to buy a SLR you must know that the lowest price would be $600, so if you can pay have a look on
