Will I use a camcorder?

I am considering buying a camcorder - specifically a Canon Elura 100. I do not have kids, which I think many who buy them, use it for. I love having a digital still camera, but don't know how much I would mess with a camcorder. I would hope to use it on vacations and car events in my Miata. I guess my question is, do you use yours for more than taking videos of your kids?

If you do any kind of sports, camcorders are great. I snowboard and skateboard. I also use my camcorder for hikes and parties.

If you don't think you'll use a camcorder too much, just get a nice digital camera. I suggest a Canon SD700. It takes amazing 6 Mega Pixel photos. You can also take videos with it at 60fps!

By the way, I don't have kids, I am a kid. I use camcorders all the time. ; ) I don't have kids but i use mine all the time like doing stupid things with friends, spring brake, and my summer trips, and the best thing of all was the last day of school and we passed it around to every one it was the best!!! I agree with reilly. I'm a kid as well, and I have an SD700. It's a great camera because you can do videos with it as well, and if you're not a huge video person, its good for the occasional video if you dont want to buy a separate video camera. i have a camcorder as well, a canon gl2, and I use that mainly for making movies. I think a SD700 would be good enough for you, since you sound like your probably not going to do anything too big, but if you want a longer recording time and better quality, go with miniDV. Hope this helps! There is no limit to the imagination what you can videotape. And if you don't like what you recorded, you can just tape right over it. I have always been a 35mm person, had no interest in video, UNTIL I bought one. I got the Canon XL1, and now I very seldom use my 35mms. Just go out there and have fun. I use mine whenever I go on vacations or visit another city, I use it to take views and shoot movies of the city and stuff. You don't have to use it on your kids. It's basically what you want to use it for. i use mine for lots of stuff. i use it on road trips, family or friend events, lightning, and even some stupid stuff like you would see on jackass. but youll never know. maby you would wanna catch something on tape in action.
