A DVD will record only as good as the source. Think about it for a second - its digital - 1's and 0's. How can the quality drop? As long as the output device/format you choose has the same capability you won't notice any degradation.
Was the display device calibrated? Probably not. Who calibrates their TV? But this is a common problem in digital photography and it causes a lot of urban mythology to be spread around - like fresh spring manure. Ashish D,
