Which is the best camcorder out now.?

I want a video recorder for my hols next year. Which is best VfM and what is the best format. You can buy them which record straight onto a small dvd can't you? Thanks

I too recommend the JVC with 30GB HD camcorder but that will run you about $700.00.

The next brand would be any modern Panasonic MiniDV camcorder.

Avoid those that write to a DVD. They are slow. dont buy sony as it might be recalled.

try jvc with 30 gb hard drive I had the same question and was surprised to learn that miniDVD camcorders are not good for video editing because of the format the movies are stored in (MPEG). If you want to edit on your PC or MAC, get a mini DV tape camcorder, and make sure it has firewire and USB 2 output. Here's a good article on the subject:

If you don't care about editing on a computer, then a miniDVD from Sony (I think the 505) has been highly rated. If you will never bother to edit your videos (and many people can't be bothered) the DVD format seems quite a good idea. But if you want to be able to edit, you are best to stick to the miniDV format, which records on small tape casettes.

The Panasonic 3-CCD cameras are excellent miniDV machines, with the NV-GS180B highly recommended. I have an older 3-CCD Panasonic and am very pleased with it. Here's a list of the top camcorders for 2006:
