Where can I find a place to fix my Sony DVD camcorder...other than Sony. Their charges are ridiculou

I need to find a company that can repair Sony products in Southern California. I'm willing to send it out if necessary but would rather have easy access to the company for future reference.

If you haven't had your camera too long, I'd take it back to the store I purchased it from and exchange it for a MiniDV camera. DVD's are crap as media goes - 10% of them will become car mirror baubles, and that's fact not fiction. Any insider in the industry knows that. If you whine enough, the store will likely exchange your camera for you. Whether it is a simple repair or a costly repair sony usually charges 25 percent of the product cost as i experienced after i gave the music system to be repaired by them . However It is better to give it to Sony as only they have access to the original parts if anything needs to be replaced DVD camcorders are relatively new. Call and check to see if they extended some kind of warranty for a possible defective part.

A friend of mine did that for a camcorder and eventually found out it was covered, because of the defective part, it was done for them free. It is not true that only Sony has access to the original parts. Sony will sell spare parts to anyone who will pay for them, including the consumer. However, Sony does have much more expertise on most of their own products so you may get what you pay for, especially on a newer product. But an independently owned authorized Sony repair center might be a good choice as well. See the link below for some options.

Though Sony's charges may seem ridiculous to you, it is simply a matter of supply and demand. And as long as equipment can be repaired for less than the replacement costs, the costs will be high. Once replacement costs drop enough to compete with repair costs there will be no more profit in it and nobody will bother to sell repairs at all.
