What's the difference between SP and LP and its pros/cons?
I'm interested in buying a $299 camcorder that pretty much has everything I want in a camcorder, but it only allows LP instead of SP. What are the differences and what are the pros and cons for both? Will this affect the quality of the video I shoot?
Answer:
"SP" stands for "Standard Play". It will be the best quality recording. "LP" is "Long Play", and will have a subsequent quality loss. A 120 minute tape will record 240 minutes in LP. The quality of LP is less than SP; however, you get much more time to shoot videos. Try it out before you buy it. The only differace is that LP allows a longer recording time than the SP format on a tape, at the cost of some recording quality. Tapes are cheap, so don't lower the quality of your recordings, it's not worth it. If you need to record events over 60 mins onto one tape regularly, buy a different type of camera.
