What type of video editing/capture card do I need, for my PC to get HD video from my Sony cam?
I'm new to this, but I want to do it right... What are the factors that make one card better than another?
...Also, I've heard that a regular video card has little or nothing to do with editing video, and that I in fact need a special kind of video card, specifically built for editing... Is this true?

All you need is a 512MB NVIDIA graphics card, a 3 GHZ Pentium D Dual core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a 500 or 1,000 GB Hard Drive. I would recommend a 17 or 19 inch monitor. You only need a firewire cable to transfer video. For editing software, go with Sony Vegas 6, because the sound editing feaure is much better than Adobe Premiere Pro's, and both programs are much cheaper than Avid Xpress Pro HD. I also have a Sony DCR-PC1000 camera, and I use the same software and the same system. Get a mac and FCP
