What do I need to connect my camcorder to a PC and burn it to a DVD?
I am sure I need some kind of cable to connect to my PC and some software to burn it to a CD. What exactly do I need and how much does it cost? Any special software to create special effects when writing to a CD?

You can try the DVD Slideshow Builder which is very powerful and very popular now , i like it very much. It's very easy to create a customized DVD slide show with photos and videos, and i can add music, transitions, motion effects and make beautiful DVD menus.

good luck You need a breakout box. Pinnacle makes one for about 100. dollars that will take the rca inputs from any device and push it through a usb cable so you can put video and audio to a dvd if you have a dvd burner. The software with effects comes with the box. You need a camcorder dv or firewire output, a firewire lead and a firewire port on your computer(which is fairly easy to put in)
Do you want to edit the stuff you shot? Then for software try pinnacle studio 10 or Ulead VideoStudio 10.
Pinnacle is simpler (i havent used 10 but used 9) but can be slow
at burning dvds (although you only want it for cds). Try them both as a trial. If you dont want to edit but just put it on disc then get Ulead Movie Factory
When You say you want to put it cd do you as a svcd or vcd? you realise not all dvd players can play these?
