Can I convert camcorder film to avi or mpeg?
I have made a film at home and I would like to put it on the net so others can see it. But when I transferred it onto my pc I got loads of files - I thought I'd get an avi or mpeg but I got mpg with gifs and other weird named files. So My question is can I put them all together to make one avi etc. If so how?

Well I'm not sure what program you used to capture the video from your camera to your computer. Also, not sure what type of camera you have, DV tape, DVD or Hard Disk, they are all a bit different to how you put files and get "one avi" file for your video.
If its Hard Disk, and the format it records in isn't avi, then you need to convert it with programs.
If it is DV tape, capture with Movie Maker (Windows) or iMovie (MAC), this should give you one big avi file. Search for "MPEG to AVI converter"

There is really some great software out there but since I am broke I have never bought it and have only used demo versions so do not know what to recommend To convert what's on your video cam normally if it is on tape you use a video capture card to have your video downloaded to your pc with this capture cards you'll get various file formats such as avi, mpeg, mp4, if you are to save all this file to your pc the AVI is the clearest in terms of picture clarity for raw footages. with the onset of information technology there are other file converters available for purchase or download from the internet. However You may use Adobe Premier to convert your AVI file to whatever file format you wish such as MOV for internet viewing or even MPEG this file formats are viewable in windows media player or Quciktime. Note that if you have a full tape filled with video say 1 hour you must have at least 18GB available disk space as I've said its the clearest and its a monster in size from this file format you can convert it to lower resolution like MOV or MPG Guides here http://www.mp4direct.org/how%20to%20guid...
