Camcorder help?

I have some really old tapes from the 90s that I took with two old camcorders. I have been using a newer one for years now. My oldest camera was thrown away and my other old camera is still in my basement, but it won't connect to my computer because when it was made, FireWire didn't exist. I am using the old tapes from those two camcorders to make a video for my dad's 50th b-day. Does anyone have any ideas for how to get them onto my computer? Any machines that will burn the tapes to a DVD that can be put into my computer? The old camcorders used the following types of tapes: 8mm and TC-30. Please be as specific as possible.

If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC don't have a direct answer.. but if I were you I would look for a local shop (camera/photo/video/electronic... that does transfers and have them do the whole bunch for you. Have them made to avi or quicktime files, which you can edit and/or dvd's ,which you can easily view. [but the dvd's will not be good for future editing]. Good luck. You can use a converter to convert the signal. My guess is that you have Firewire now, because you mention that the old cameras won't connect to your computer because they cameras don't have Firewire. If that's the case, I recommend the ADS Pyro A/V Link - it'll convert the analog signal, via RCA composite (red-white-yellow) or S-video, to DV and put that into your computer via Firewire.

Now, the tough part; how to play back those old tapes? I believe TC-30 is VHS-C? If so, you can get a VHS-C-to-VHS adapter, which can be played back in a standard VCR. You can hook that up to the ADS Pyro A/V Link.

As for the 8mm? Best option is to see if you can borrow somebody else's 8mm, Hi8, or Digital 8 camcorder for a while. That's the cheapest option.
